Google Ads Management for Contractors

Most contractors are not losing money on Google Ads because the ads are bad. They are losing it because nobody is watching what happens after the click.

Managed in-house · No long contracts · Cost per booked job, not cost per click

We audited a roofing client spending fourteen thousand a month on Google Ads whose agency reported a twelve dollar cost per lead. The real cost per booked job was over eleven hundred dollars, because ninety percent of those leads were form fills from people outside the service area who never answered the phone. Nobody had connected the ad account to the CRM, so nobody could see it.

The Number Your Agency Reports Is Not The Number That Pays You

Loosen the match types, widen the radius, count every form fill, and the number drops. Cost per booked job only appears once the ad account talks to the CRM, and that plumbing is the part that gets skipped.

$1,100

Real Cost Per Booked Job

The same account was reported at $12 per lead. Cost per lead is the easiest metric to make look good and the least connected to revenue.

Where Contractor Ad Budgets Leak

The same four leaks, in almost every account we audit. None are exotic and none need a rebuild to fix.

01

Broad Match, No Negatives

You pay for trades you do not work in and jobs you do not take.

02

Radius Too Wide

Set to 50 miles when the crew will not drive past 25.

03

LSA Fighting Search

Local Service Ads bidding against your own campaigns for one customer.

04

Ads Pointed At The Homepage

No page about the thing they actually searched for.

What We Do, And What We Refuse To Do

What You Get

  • +Managed in-house. No white-label, no offshore desk.
  • +The person who builds the campaign answers your questions.
  • +Conversion tracking wired to the CRM, not just to form fills.
  • +Two clients per metro maximum, never your competitor.

What We Will Not Do

  • Sell Google Ads as a standalone service.
  • Take a percentage of ad spend.
  • Report cost per lead and call it a result.
  • Point paid traffic at a site that does not convert.

The First Ninety Days

  1. 01

    Diagnose And Wire

Audit the account, pull 90 days of search terms, connect conversion tracking to the CRM, turn on call tracking with outcome recording.

  2. 02

    Restructure

Negatives built from real search terms, match types tightened, geography enforced, LSA split from Search, landing pages for the top three queries.

  3. 03

    Report On Booked Jobs

Enough closed jobs attributed back to campaigns to replace cost per lead with cost per booked job. Usually three to five times higher than what was reported before.

Which Trades This Works Best For

Google Ads earns its keep where the job is worth thousands and the customer is buying today. It is a poor fit where the ticket is small and the click costs the same.

01

Strong Fit

Roofing after a storm, HVAC in a heat wave, emergency plumbing, water damage restoration. A $40 click returns on a job worth thousands.

02

Weak Fit

Low-ticket recurring services where lifetime value takes a year to build. Organic and LSA carry the load better.

03

Dental And Legal

Higher cost per click, higher case value. The deciding factor is whether the front desk answers fast enough.

04

The Real Question

Can you answer the phone inside five minutes? That is an operations question, and it decides whether ads work at all.

Paid and organic were run as one funnel rather than two budgets. The ad account fed the same CRM the organic leads landed in, so for the first time every booked job could be traced back to the campaign that produced it.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What Operators Ask Before They Start

Last updated July 2026 · Reviewed by Nick Peist, Founder

What does Google Ads management cost?

Google Ads is part of the bundled platform starting at $5,450 per month, which includes the website, CRM, SEO and AEO. Ad spend is separate and goes directly to Google. We do not take a percentage of spend, because that structure rewards us for spending more of your money rather than for booking more jobs.

Do you manage Local Service Ads as well as Search?

Yes, and they need managing together. Running LSAs and Search campaigns in the same market without coordination means the two compete for the same query and you pay twice for one customer. We manage both in one account view and set the split by which one produces booked jobs in your market.

How fast does Google Ads produce leads compared to SEO?

Ads produce calls within days, SEO takes months. That is the honest trade. Ads stop the moment you stop paying, and SEO compounds. Most contractors we work with run ads to cover the gap while the organic and AI visibility work matures, then reduce ad spend rather than eliminate it.

Why do you refuse to sell Google Ads by itself?

Because paid traffic sent to a site that does not convert is the most expensive possible way to find out the site is the problem. We would be taking a management fee to pour money into a leak. If ads are genuinely all you need, an ad-only shop will serve you better and cost less.

Who actually manages the account day to day?

We do, in-house. There is no white-label partner and no offshore desk. The person who builds the campaign answers your questions directly. At two clients per metro maximum, we are never running your account alongside your closest competitor's.

What happens to the ad account if we stop working together?

The Google Ads account is yours and stays yours. We work inside your account rather than a shared agency account, so there is nothing to migrate and no hostage situation. You keep the history, the conversion data and the negative keyword list we built.

Digital Due DiligenceThe question nobody asks

An ad account builds years of conversion history. If you changed agencies tomorrow, would that history be yours?

Most owners have never been asked. Nobody hands you a checklist when you build a digital foundation.
