GEO AGENCY · GENERATIVE ENGINE OPTIMIZATION
OPTIMIZED FOR THE ENGINE. NOT JUST THE RANKING.
Princeton + Georgia Tech research: GEO content = 30-115% higher AI citation rate
01 / WHAT IS A GEO AGENCY
GENERATIVE ENGINE OPTIMIZATION IS THE NEW SEO.
GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It is the discipline of engineering your website, schema, entity data, and content so that generative AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, and Gemini cite your business by name inside their generated answers.
A GEO agency does three things a traditional SEO agency does not: engineers schema and entity data for machine extraction, publishes and maintains llms.txt for AI crawler access, and writes content in the quotable-passage format that AI engines prefer to cite over traditional long-form blog content.
Princeton and Georgia Tech research published in 2024 found that GEO-optimized content achieves 30 to 115 percent higher citation rates inside AI answers compared to standard SEO-optimized content. That gap compounds every month.
02 / HOW ENGINES DECIDE WHAT TO CITE
MOST CITATIONS DO NOT COME FROM YOUR WEBSITE. THAT CHANGES THE STRATEGY.
Ask most owners where an engine gets the information it cites about them and they picture their homepage. In practice most citations point to third-party sources: directories, review platforms, community discussion, video and industry publications.
That is the uncomfortable part. Publishing more of your own pages has a ceiling. Past a point, another service page does not move a decision being made off what independent sources say. A website cannot corroborate itself.
That does not make the website irrelevant, it changes its job. The site is where the facts live in structured form, the source an engine checks a third-party mention against. Directories, reviews and industry mentions earn the citation. Both have to be built together.
GEO work that only touches the website is optimizing half the system. The other half lives on platforms the business does not own, and has to be earned deliberately.
03 / GEO VS. SEO
GEO AGENCY VS. TRADITIONAL SEO AGENCY. DIFFERENT SIGNALS.
Both matter. But the SEO playbook from 2018 is not what gets you cited by ChatGPT in 2026.
04 / THE GEO METHODOLOGY
FOUR SIGNALS. ENGINEERED IN PARALLEL.
A GEO retainer ships four work streams every month. Each one compounds differently. All four running in parallel is what separates GEO agencies from SEO shops adding AI as a checkbox.
Schema + entity engineering
LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, Organization, and Person schema wired with cross-referenced @id properties so AI crawlers map your business as a single trusted entity.
Answer-first content architecture
Every service page engineered with the 'quotable passage' pattern: definitions, numbers, and named-source paragraphs that AI engines extract verbatim.
Multi-city GEO lift
For contractors serving 2+ markets, we build city-specific GEO pages with local entity data, service-area schema, and place-based citations.
llms.txt + AI crawler access
We publish and maintain llms.txt, ai.txt, and robots.txt rules tuned for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, and every major AI crawler.
05 / THE CRAWLER SPLIT THAT TRIPS PEOPLE UP
SEARCH BOTS AND TRAINING BOTS ARE NOT THE SAME. BLOCKING THE WRONG ONE MAKES YOU INVISIBLE.
Robots.txt files get edited by well-meaning teams trying to protect content from AI, and the edit often blocks the wrong bot. Every major AI company runs more than one crawler with a different job, and the two get confused constantly.
A search crawler, like PerplexityBot or Google-Extended’s search-facing counterpart, visits a page at query time to retrieve current information and generate an answer with a citation attached. Blocking this crawler removes the business from that engine’s search results entirely, the opposite of what most businesses intend when they add a rule to robots.txt.
A training crawler like GPTBot or CCBot visits separately, gathering data to train the model on a much longer cycle, with no citation attached. Blocking one is a legitimate content decision with no bearing on whether you show up tomorrow.
Get the two confused and a business can block the exact bot responsible for citing it in real time while leaving the training bot untouched, or the reverse. Either way, the outcome does not match the intent.
This is why llms.txt and crawler rules are maintained bot by bot rather than as a single blanket allow or block, and reviewed on the same cadence as everything else in the technical foundation. See Answer Engine Optimization for how citation decisions get made once the crawler can actually reach the content.

TERRITORY EXCLUSIVITY
ONE CONTRACTOR PER TRADE. PER MARKET.
We do not work with two roofers, two HVAC companies, or two plumbers competing for the same customers. When you sign, your trade plus your market is locked. Market means your real service footprint: typically a county or metro area, defined in writing in your agreement. Your direct competitors cannot hire us.
If you sign
Your trade and market lock. Every call we generate in your territory is yours. No split attention, no conflicts of interest, no working both sides.
If your competitor signs first
Your trade in that market is closed. We will tell you directly and we will not build a similar system for anyone else inside that footprint.
FAQ · GEO AGENCY
WHAT CONTRACTORS ASK BEFORE HIRING A GEO AGENCY.

What is a GEO agency?
A GEO agency specializes in Generative Engine Optimization: engineering websites, schema, and content so generative AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, and Gemini cite the business inside their generated answers. Wildfire Media is a GEO agency purpose-built for home service contractors.
How is GEO different from SEO?
SEO optimizes for the ranked list of blue links. GEO optimizes for the AI-generated answer that appears above those links and that 80 percent of users now read without clicking. GEO weights schema depth, entity cross-references, fact-density, and llms.txt accessibility, signals most SEO agencies do not engineer.
Is GEO the same as AEO?
Close. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is about winning citations inside the AI answer. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the content engineering discipline that produces it. The signals overlap roughly 90 percent. Wildfire ships both as one bundled retainer.
What does a GEO agency charge?
We bundle GEO, AEO, SEO, and Local with a custom website and the system your team runs on, from $5,450 per month. Standalone GEO specialists price GEO separately from the SEO foundation it depends on. We bundle because GEO without a ranking foundation does not compound.
How long until a GEO agency shows results?
Citations begin appearing 60 to 90 days after the foundation ships. Schema, llms.txt, and entity data compound over six months. Multi-city contractors typically see the first lift in the highest-intent city queries first, then cascade to secondary markets over the following 90 days.
Where do AI engines actually pull their citations from?
Mostly from third-party sources: directories, review platforms, community discussion, video, and industry publications, not from the business's own website alone. The website supplies the authoritative facts an engine cross-checks a third-party mention against. Both layers need to be built, and neither one replaces the other.
Should a business block AI crawlers to protect its content?
Only after separating search crawlers from training crawlers. Blocking a search crawler like PerplexityBot removes you from that engine's answers entirely. Blocking a training crawler like GPTBot changes nothing about whether you get cited tomorrow. Block the wrong one and you go invisible believing you protected something.
Is publishing more pages the way to get more AI citations?
Only up to a point. Since most citations point to third-party sources, adding more of the business's own pages has a ceiling once the site's facts are already well structured. Past that point, the higher-leverage work is earning corroboration on platforms the business does not own: directories, reviews, and industry mentions.
What is the difference between a search bot and a training bot?
A search bot retrieves information the moment someone asks and attaches a citation. A training bot gathers data on a long cycle to train the model, with no citation attached. Robots.txt has to name each one, not block AI crawlers as a category.
Getting named by an AI engine is worth exactly as much as the asset it points to. Do you own yours?
Most owners have never been asked. Nobody hands you a checklist when you build a digital foundation.
